Farmington Week Seventeen

Sister Barker, the Johnsons, and me at pizza & game night.
Hello, friends!! It's been another busy week with more exchanges! The most exciting days were Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

Tuesday! I spent the day with Sister Lake in Kirtland. She had lost her phone the night before so we had to put her companion's sim card into my phone, which meant that we didn't have almost any of the contacts we needed for the day AND my phone wouldn't let her log in to the app we use as a planner with all of our appointments because the app had just updated the previous night and had some glitches... SO it was quite the adventure because we had to call her companions (they're in a trio) and get all the info we could for the SIX appointments they had that day from them and a lot of their area is on the reservation so we didn't have a very good map of where we were supposed to be. It was hectic to say the least! But Sister Lake handled it like a champ, especially considering that she had only been in the area a few weeks and hadn't even met a lot of the people we were visiting that day. I know if the roles had been reversed I would have been in a lot worse shape! But Heavenly Father helped us so much! Like at one point, it was 12:15 and we were on the reservation (very far from the sister's apartment) and we were so hungry for lunch, but we had more lessons also on the rez at 1 and 2 and 3, so we didn't have time to make the long drive back to their place to get some food. So we said a prayer that we would be able to make it through the next few hours and guess what! We went to our 1 o'clock and the woman we were meeting with had made us pot roast! It was such a tender mercy!! Looking back, it may not seem like that big of a deal, but it was to us! And honestly, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal if we hadn't had anything to eat between 8 and 4, but God is in the details of our lives! If it matters to us, it matters to Him!! So we had a great lunch and even greater lessons that day. The people in Kirtland are very humble and just absolutely wonderful, so it was great to be there!

Wednesday! Another day in Kirtland! But this time I was with Sister Lake AND Sister Kocherhans! Does that name sound familiar to you? That's because I lived with Sister Kocherhans for three transfers when I served in Bloomfield!! It was SO MUCH FUN to spend the day with her. I love that Sister. And we had lots of miracles on Wednesday too! The highlight was our last appointment of the night. We got to this cute family's home and their baby boy had hand-foot-mouth. He was just screaming and crying and it was so sad. So we didn't want to take a ton of time, but we did want to at least share a scripture with them. We had an opening prayer and then Sister Lake turned to Sister Kocherhans and me and said, "Do you want to sing 'I am a Child of God'?" We were both a little hesitant, but we did it and it was incredible. By the time we got through the first verse, the baby had stopped crying, and once we finished the song, he was asleep! There was a beautiful, peaceful calmness in the room. It really felt like there had been angels singing with us. It was a very good reminder of the profoundness and importance of that simple phrase, "I am a child of God". We are His children!

Saturday! I spent Saturday with Sister Barker. I actually got to go on exchanges with her when we were both serving in Colorado back in January. It was way fun to spend a day with her again after so long! It seems like we were both just little babies back then! Crazy how much you grow in 9 months. And I learned so much from Sister Barker. She is an amazing sister!! We got to have a lesson with Jane together and it was just fun to teach with her. She has a beautiful testimony and is very sincere when she talks. We had a great discussion about the importance of being open to the promptings and whispering of the Spirit because, in reality, He wants to talk to us so badly, but we will only be able to hear Him if we're open to Him. It was a good lesson/reminder to me that maybe when I have questions that I can't find answers to, I'm just not actually listening to the answers I'm being given for whatever reason. Pride, distractions, stubbornness. I don't know! But it's important to stay open to what Heavenly Father wants to teach us!

I hope you all had a wonderful week! Can you believe it's October 22nd?? Where is this year going?? Anyways, life is good cause God is good!

From Farmington with love,
Sister Bohman
