Transfer One - Week Six
Hello friends!! I'm just going to tell you this now: every week is crazy long, but also fast somehow AND every week is good. So lets get into it...
On Monday, we had a district activity out to hike what's called "Octopus Rock". We took our trucks up some pretty tricky, semi-scary dirt roads and got maybe a little lost and never actually ended up finding Octopus, BUT we had a great time! We have a wonderful district. That night we visited the sweetest lady, Maria, who is actually our ward's Sunday school president's mother. She is a Catholic and she came to church last Sunday for the primary program and loved it! She's always super happy to see us and we just love her. Tonight we read some of The Living Christ with her and it was wonderful!
One of the highlights of the week for me was Tuesday morning. We went to contact some referrals in the ward and we ended up meeting this one woman who we just had the greatest conversation with. We actually knocked on the wrong door, which is what lead us to find her... the Lord was leading us and we didn't even know it! Her name is Angela and there are a lot of things she's involved in that differ from our beliefs and standards, but we asked if we could share a message about Jesus Christ and she kind of reluctantly let us inside her (super cute) home. We got to talking more about our beliefs and about how all we're really trying to do is follow Jesus Christ. It turns out that she's known other Mormons, but she's had really bad experiences with those members. I think that we were able to mend some of those bad impressions that she's had of the church and by the time we left, she said that she was really happy that she let us inside and wished us luck with our service. I honestly don't know if we'll see Angela again, or if she'll get baptized any time soon, but I DO know that we planted seeds. I think that she felt the Spirit as we were talking to her and maybe someday, years from now she'll encounter the church again and remember the good experience we had together and that will soften her heart.
One thing that we talked a lot about with Angela because it was a big concern of hers, was the fact that so many people claim to be "Christian", but they don't truly follow Christ in the way that they live, and especially in the way they treat others. I think everyone should ask themselves: can people tell, just through my actions and words towards others, that I am a follower of Christ? It doesn't matter how often you say you're a christian until you truly start to follow Christ. And "follow" is an action, which means we can't do it without your own actions. There's no room for hatred in the Lord's church. There really isn't. There's no room for hatred or grudges or jealousy. We're all God's children and we're all in this together. I loved how many conference talks mentioned the way that we should treat others. It is so so so important. Everyone needs love!! Okay, rant over, sorry about that.
The rest of the week was really good! And GUESS WHAT??
I made it a whole transfer out in the field!! It's crazy how fast it went, but it also kind of feels like I've been on my mission for about an eternity. Time is weird like that.
And we got transfer news on Saturday night and....
I'm staying in Bloomfield! And Sister Withers is staying too!! And the two sisters we live with are staying!! The trailer family is sticking together!! I was honestly so happy and relieved when we found out because, man, do I love all these sisters. This means that we'll be together for Halloween and Thanksgiving! Life is good.
So that was my week! I'd love to hear how all of your weeks have gone!! Thanks for the emails and prayers :)
I love you all!!
