Durango Week Twenty Two
Hello, friends!! We went on two more exchanges but I got to stay in the area both times! Hooray!
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Got to work for a day with Sister Munk and we sorted through probably three dozen boxes of fruits and veggies to get rid of all the rotten stuff (there was a lot of rotten stuff) at the food bank. Let's just say I'm glad we had aprons. AND we taught someone about the power of prayer. Sister Munk is AMAZING at promising blessings. SO good.
- We miraculously ran into an investigator that we haven't seen in a while and had a GREAT talk! Funny story with that: I had been crying for a variety of happy and less happy reasons so when we ran into Brady he goes, "Have you been crying?" So I go, "yep I do that sometimes" and he responds with, "Me too. I've been crying a lot recently. But when people ask, I just say my eyes are watering because of the smoke." Gotta love Brady.
- IT RAINED!!!! And the whole land rejoiced.
- Got to work with SISTER CORPUS (a.k.a. one of my favorite people in the whole world) again on Saturday and we had a blast. We had a somewhat scattered, but still great lesson with Louie. Good news! He still REALLY wants to be baptized and is working really hard towards it. Go Louie! Then we helped a sister in our ward plant some flowers, which was so much fun. She made us turkey sandwiches for lunch, but made mine out of lettuce (more news, I apparently can't eat gluten anymore) and I didn't even miss the bread! It was pretty tasty. - We (still Sister Corpus and I) also had a fantastic lesson with Daniel about priesthood blessings because we've been feeling like he needs one. We showed him the Bible video of Peter and John healing the man lame from birth. If you haven't seen that one, go find it!! You can watch it at biblevideos.lds.org and it is SO good. So much joy. Daniel really liked it. And he got a new tie for church! He was so excited to show it to us and it was so cute.
- We got a referral from Sister at temple square in SLC last Sunday and we met him this week and he is so super duper great!! His name is Courtney and he's going through a lot right now, but he is so prepared for the gospel! Miracles!
And that was this week!
On Thursday morning I read the story of Peter walking on water with Christ in Matthew 14:28-31 and I've been thinking a lot about it. After Peter starts sinking, Christ tells him, "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" so that got me pondering faith and doubt. In this incredible scene in Peter's life, he sees Christ and he has the faith that Christ can do anything and with Him, he can walk on water. Then the storms come and doubt creeps in. Peter begins to sink. I've read this story lots of times throughout my life and it always hits me in a different way. This time what caught my attention is that although the doubts come, Peter holds on to the faith he still has. In that moment of desperation, he stopped believing that he himself, Peter, could walk on water, but he always, ALWAYS knew that Christ could save him in any circumstance, so he calls out to Him, "Lord, save me." Sometimes I feel like Peter and I have the confidence that with Christ's help, I can do crazy seemingly-impossible things like walk on water (or talk to people all day every day), but then hard things happen, the storms come, and I loose that assurance. But even when my faith in myself being able to do hard things wavers, I can always always cry in my heart, "Lord, save me" and I know He will.
Life isn't perfect, but it sure is good. And I'm far from perfect, but I'm growing each day, and that's something worth celebrating. It is great to be a missionary!
Lots and lots of love,
Sister Bohman
