Durango Week Twenty
Hello friends!! Sorry this email's going to be short! There's so little time!!
This week was crazy! I think we've spent about 10 hours in the car driving to Farmington, Pagosa Springs, and Cortez for mission leadership conference (for Sister Higgins), zone conference, and exchanges. It's been fun! But so draining! But also super super good.
This zone conference was our last one with President and Sister Adams, so it was pretty emotional. In classic Sister Bohman fashion, I cried like a baby. At one point when the two of them were giving us their departing words of wisdom, Sister Adams looks at me and goes, "Oh, stop that Sister Bohman!! You're gonna make me cry!!" Classic me. Then for the closing hymn we sang "We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet" only there was a twist because President's Assistants called us the day before and told me to transition from that hymn to "God Be With You Til We Meet Again" and OH MY the tears. But it's like Winnie the Pooh said, "How lucky am I that I have something that makes saying goodbye so hard". What a wise little bear. That's exactly how I feel about the Adams. But I know that our new mission president is called of God and he will bring amazing things to the mission!! Everyone keep President and Sister Ackerman in your prayers as they prepare to go to the MTC! :)
Update on Daniel just because I think he's the biggest miracle of the Durango 2nd Ward... he's doing amazing!! He told us on Saturday that he 100% believes God will call a prophet today (that's a concept he struggled with in the past) because He loves us too much to just leave us here without direction! Now, he said, he just needs to find out if that prophet IS President Nelson! He's really searching out his answers. And he's been taking notes as he reads the Book of Mormon! I just love him.
One more thing I just HAVE to talk about was the Be One celebration that was broadcasted from SLC on Friday night. It was all about celebrating 40 years since the long-awaited revelation that allowed the priesthood to be given to EVERY worthy male member and temple ordinances for every worthy member, regardless of race. It was beautifully done and I was so touched by the stories of these incredibly faithful pioneers that followed the Holy Spirit when He spoke to them, even with restrictions that they couldn't understand. It was a reminder to me that we won't always understand everything that God commands, and He never said we would. He does, however, always assure us that He knows what's best and whatever He does, He has His reasons and we just need to follow. Jesus Christ taught it best when He asked for the bitter cup to be passed from Him, but followed His request with, "Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." (Luke 22:42). It was just an incredible celebration. The music, the dances, and the spoken word were just perfect. Plus, Gladys Knight is one of my new heroes. That sister can SING. If you haven't watched, go to lds.org ASAP. I'm pretty sure it's still on the home page. Of not just search, "Be One broadcast" and it will probably pop up.
Lots and lots of love from Durango!!
Sister Bohman
