Farmington Week Thirteen
Farmington Week 13
Hello, friends!! Good news! ANOTHER transfer with Sister Darlington in 2nd Ward! I have now set the record for her longest companion :) Hopefully she's as happy about that as I am!
This week was completely not normal at all!
Monday: went to a cute second hand shop called the arc! It was incredible!! So many dresses.
Tuesday: we helped Pastor Mark (from the Cowboy Church) paint the outside of his house! That was lots of fun because I've never painted the outside of a house as far as I can remember and I got the job of detail work (which I love). There was a whole fleet of us missionaries there and after we finished we sang "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go" and Pastor Mark LOVED it. That night we had a fun relief society activity playing bunco, which I had never heard of before. It's basically a really simple dice game where you're trying to role certain numbers and one returning member we're working with, Judy (the cutest Navajo grandma) had the most incredible luck with rolling exactly what she needed and basically she was the life of the party. It was so cute. Little, quiet 75+ lady stole the show.
WEDNESDAY: we had huge zone conference with the Colorado/Utah/New Mexico zones because Elder Pieper (a member of the seventy) came for a mission tour! Seventies are called "to preach the gospel, and to be especial witnesses unto the Gentiles and in all the world" (Doctrine & Covenants 107:25). It was really powerful to hear his special witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, but most importantly of Jesus Christ himself. The whole meeting was really powerful. One of the things that really stood out from what he said was about the covenant path. He talked about the path back to Heavenly Father (faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, recieving the Holy Ghost by confirmation, and enduring to the end--including taking the sacrament weekly and temple ordinances) and how every single person is someone on this path, although many people aren't even at faith yet, and our role as missionaries is to help people move to their next step. I really liked how that took out the "members" and "nonmembers" thing. We are all just children of our Heavenly Father. Children who He wants home. He has laid out the perfect path for all of us through His Son, Jesus Christ. One of the greatest blessings of missionary work is getting to see people progress along that path.
Thursday: Thursday was crazy! Elder Pieper stayed for another day to have a short conference with the leadership of the mission (which Sister Darlington is included in) so I spent another day with Sister Linford. That afternoon we met back up with our companions and Sister Darlington and I, along with the other Farmington missionaries when to help some missionaries in our district move houses. It was great because their new little is really nice by missionary standards and everyone was just super excited for them. It was way fun to help them figure out where to put everything (more detail work!!). That night we had a really great appointment with the Begays and we talked about the covenant path so we asked Brother Begay if he remembers his baptism. He told us about it and about how he felt and how incredible it was and oh man. The Spirit was so strong as he talked. I really hope he could feel it too because I think that was the reminder he needed about the covenants he's made with God and how good he felt when he was keeping them in the past. Keep the Begays in your prayers please! They're getting really close to coming back.
Friday: we had a really exciting water leak! We got home on Thursday night and a big section of our carpet next to the kitchen was soaking wet and there was a thin layer of water all over the kitchen floor. So we called our landlord and he called the plummer in the morning. He came over as soon as he could and saw that one of our pipes had a tiny pinhole in it that water was spraying out of. It was actually really nice because the spot where the hole was was right behind a little plastic panel that's an access point to the pipes so they didn't have to search for it too hard and got it fixed in no time. But our apartment smelled pretty bad while it was drying out. And the fact that we accidently caught a brownie on fire in the microwave didn't help... There were lots of smells going on!
Saturday: we had a deep cleaning day! My favorite!! So that was lots of fun. That night we also got to meet a few more people that are really great! I loved Saturday.
Sunday: after church we had another linger longer and so many people lingered longer!! We had SO MANY cookies and brownies and SO MANY leftovers that somehow ended up with us... So we'll be leaving those in the mission office. That afternoon we had a lesson in a park (which was beautiful) and talked about the restoration with LeAnn (a returning member). We also told her about general conference and how amazing it is to get to hear from a loving prophet, a modern Moses. I felt the Spirit testify to me and remind me that Yes! That is amazing!! I cannot wait for October 6th and 7th.
This week we had dinner with the relief society president and her family and the daughter, whose a senior in high school, was asking us lots of questions about what it's like and she said, "do you ever get homesick?". I had to honestly answer that, yes it happens sometimes, but that those moments are nothing compared to the joy you feel in giving everything to serving Heavenly Father and His children. And it's true! Being a missionary is hard sometimes, but I wouldn't trade this opportunity for the world. I love being a disciple of Jesus Christ! And I'm going to do it for the rest of my life!!
From Farmington with love,
Sister Bohman
