Durango Week Twelve
Hello, friends!! This week FLEW.
It’s been a fairly emotional week because my wonderful companion, Sister Whipple is finished with her mission on Wednesday so we knew it was our last few days together AND it’s been the topic of conversation with every member we talk to. “What are you going to do when you get home?” or “Are you so excited? Are you scared?” and every other question like that. So it’s basically been on both of our minds 24/7. So it’s been really sad thinking about Sister Whipple leaving because Durango won’t be the same without her, BUT it’s so bittersweet because I know she’s going to go do amazing things back home—mission’s aren’t meant to last forever and now she’s going to be going on to bless lives back in South Jordan, Utah.
I’ve been super nervous because her leaving means that I’ll be taking over the area with a different sister who’s never been here before and that’s terrifying because I’ll basically be in charge. It will probably take a few weeks for my new companion to learn the area and the people, so there will be a lot of responsibility on me for a while. That’s STRESSFUL and SCARY!! But you know what? I know it’s what’s meant to happen. The Lord qualifies who He calls and right now He has called me to stay in Durango and take care of our people here while I teach another sister about them. I read a talk by President Eyring called, “Rise to Your Call” this week and it was SO good. To summarize the 3 main points:
1. God called me for this.
2. My calling is to bless lives.
3. The Lord will guide me by revelation just as He called me through revelation.
President Eyring writes about how me may not feel adequate for the callings and assignments God hands us in our lives, and we may not feel like we can fulfill them on our own. And you know what? Most of the time, we can’t do these things on our own; the good news is we don’t have to because we have the Master of the Universe on our side. Our callings come from the Lord of Lords and Eternal Father and, like Paul said, we “can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth [us].” (Philippians 4:13). Another part of this talk I liked was how President Eyring explains how we can receive the Lord’s help in our callings. He gives three more keys:
1. Be obedient.
2. Put His will in front of your own. (Favorite quote: “The words, ‘Thy will be done,’ written in the heart are the window to revelation.”)
3. Ask with faith.
I know that as I follow this counsel and do my best, Christ will magnify my righteous efforts. I know that it is the same for all of you wherever you are in life, whether you’re a parent, friend, laurel class president, primary president, or Sunday school teacher. God WANTS to help us, but He also wants us to do our part so that we can learn and grow. He is SO good and will not let us fail as we turn to Him!
Lots and lots of love,
Sister Bohman
