Durango Week Thirteen
Hello, friends!! WHAT A WEEK!
It started out with saying goodbye to Sister Whipple. I was such a mess when she started packing on Sunday night. I'm just going to miss her so much!! But it's the circle of life and I know she's going to do amazing things back at home. It'll be great!! AND my new companion, Sister Higgins is absolutely amazing. She's from Pocatello, Idaho, she works hard, and she loves the gospel. What more could I ask for?
We've already been blessed to see SO many miracles this week. God's definitely assuring me that we are both here in Durango right now for a reason! He's got great things in store for this area. As a district we have been focusing on being 100% committed to the work this week and it's been incredible! Every night we text the other missionaries in the area one miracle from the day that was a result of our commitment and (mostly) God's goodness and it's been making me so happy. Here's a few of ours:
-We were committed to talking to everyone, even when they don't speak English so we got to share Prince of Peace in Spanish (thanks technology!) with a nice lady and helped her feel a little bit of God's love.
-Because we were committed, we decided to work extra hard to get a member of a family more interested in our message, and he participated and listened more intently than he ever had before.
And the other missionaries:
-Because we were committed we didn't move on with Marvin until commitments were kept. And he prayed!!! Blessed day!
-We were committed to getting Baptisms so we put someone on date, had a baptismal interview, and a baptism all in one day!
-Miracles are flowing like smooth Alan Jackson gospel music here in Durango 1st ward. We were committed to tract in the wind and found some good potential investigators.
It's been lots of fun to get these little miracles each night. Things are going well in the Durango district!!
This week we have had some miraculous lessons. Daniel, who's on date to be baptized, has been doing so well with working on quitting smoking and I am just so proud of him. He has such great faith and motivation to quit because he wants to "be pure with God". It's really inspiring because it definitely isn't easy for him but he is so committed to his baptism. It's incredible to see his understanding of the gospel and if Jesus Christ grow as we meet with him. I can see him doing great things in the church soon!!
We also had a lesson with Edwinna and Joseph and taught then the Plan if Salvation. She told us while we were sharing it that she KNOWS it's true. She said it felt like she had heard it all before and that was just a little testimony builder to me that we aren't teaching them anything new! We are teaching God's children truths they were already taught before this earth life and all we have to do is create an environment where the Holy Spirit can connect with their spirits and remind them of these wonderful truths. It is such a blessing to be a missionary and get to witness that!
A member of the ward asked us today if we feel like our missions have really changed us today and as I reflected on that, I felt an assurances that YES I am changed. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are molding me and shaping me into the woman They know I can become and, even though stretching hurts sometimes, I wouldn't trade this experience for the world. As my favorite Sister Corpus said a few weeks back, "I love our Heavenly Father and I love Jesus Christ. I love the person I am becoming through them."
Lots and lots of love,
Sister Bohman
