Durango Week Four

Hello, friends!! This week we saw lots more miracles, found some new people to teach, put someone on date to be baptized, and it was HARD.

First of all, the miracle/finding people to teach. We had our goal for 4 new investigators this week, and we got to Saturday and we’d found exactly zero. So Saturday we started praying real hard that we would be able to accomplish that goal so find more people to share this beautiful message with. We made finding a big priority and on Saturday we found TWO people! Jeff is an Episcopalian and has a firm faith in Christ, and Maya is a young mom with a cute 8-year-old boy and she’s phenomenal. We were SO excited as we headed home that day! Then Sunday we knew we didn’t have much time because we didn’t get back from church until around 3 and then we head in for the night at 8. But we were determined and we knew that God could grant us success, if it was His will, and if we put our whole heart, might, mind, and strength into the work. And that’s just what happened! Two more investigators: Claire is an old Catholic man and he’s so kind (He told us he would pray for our success) and Brady “like the Brady Bunch” is a young dad who is compassionate and passionate about Christ being His Savior. And get this. We found them both within 30 minutes of each other, right next-door to each other. God sure did set us up for that!

Second of all, our investigator on date. Here’s another good story. So Friday night we had an appointment with our investigator, Randy, and we were talking about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We had gotten through faith in Christ and repentance and we were having a really great discussion on baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. We were just about to invite him to be baptized when his girlfriend called from Denver because her daughter’s car had broken down in a blizzard. It was hectic. He had to try to talk her through it on the phone, so that was the end of that. We had to go after a while because of our curfew, but we said we’d come back the next night. So we did. And we picked up where we left off. And (after as many interruptions as could possibly happen in just 30 minutes from Randy’s parents who, in their own words, are “nutty as a fruitcake” and “crazy as a bed bug”) we finally got to ask Randy the question. His response, “I knew you were gonna say that.” After another minute, he gave a slow nod. And then he finally said, “Yes, April 7th sounds good.” That’s Randy for you. We were ECSTATIC. When we got back into the truck that night, we couldn’t contain our joy. We are SO excited!!

Third of all, it was hard. This week was long, probably one of the longest of my life. Missionary work is full of ups and downs. It’s hard when people reject your sincere testimony. It’s hard when people think you’re just some salesman trying to sell them something they don’t want. It’s hard when you’re waiting for your investigators to show up at the church like they said they would, just to be disappointed. It’s easy to feel like, even after you do all that you can, your best could never be enough. That’s a hard way to feel. There were so many times towards the beginning of this week especially when it could have been so easy to give up and give in. But I know in whom I have trusted. I know who I am out here serving. I’m doing this for my brothers and sisters, but most importantly I’m doing this for my Savior Jesus Christ and for my Heavenly Father, who have given me all that I have. I know they are with me. And I know that with Them, I AM enough. They send us miracles each and every day, we just have to be willing to look for them. God is good!

Lots and lots of love,
Sister Bohman
