Farmington Week Eight

Hello, friends!! It's been quite a week!

MONDAY. We had a family home evening with the Johnsons (our returning members who just went to the temple to do baptisms for the first time) and watched Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration. Sister Johnson's favorite part was while they were building the temple. Joseph Smith tells Brigham Young something along the lines of "The Lord takes us as raw material and can turn us all into something great", as they were walking around the wood and materials they were using to build the temple. I loved that too! We may be raw materials right now because we all have our rough patches and hard edges, but every temple starts out like that. God can and will shape us and refine us if we let Him.

TUESDAY: We were struggling with a lesson plan we had made for a lesson with a returning member, Josephine, tonight. Our plan wasn't feeling right, but we went in praying to know what to do and say to help the her & her nonmember roommate, Diane. When we showed up, we sat down and Josephine pulled out a whole list of questions from her reading of the Book of Mormon this week and the Spirit helped us to answer her questions and concerns! We had nothing to worry about!

WEDNESDAY: We went out to the reservation part of our area today and our main plan on who to visit fell through, so we prayed together to know where to go next. After our prayer, I felt strongly that we needed to try to see a less active member named Tony, who we have tried a lot but has never been home when we've gone by. I said a fervent personal prayer that he would be home so that we could see him and... he was outside working on his car! Prayer works! We had a great discussion with him that was definitely orchestrated by heaven.

THURSDAY: A returning member family that we're working with, the Begays, read their scriptures together every day for the past week!! That was INCREDIBLE news!! And it's their 10 year old son that's reminding them to do it. "A little child shall lead them."

FRIDAY: I got a root canal! That was quite the adventure. Fun fact about me: I get super nervous about anything dentist-related! So when my mouth started hurting like CRAZY the previous week's Wednesday night (the 8th) I was naturally getting really nervous. And when the dentist I saw on Tuesday referred me to the endodontist I was REALLY nervous. And when the endodontist said "root canal" I was REALLY REALLY nervous... But it was all okay!  I had forgotten what it feels like to not be in crazy pain so after that root canal I felt like a new person!

SATURDAY: We went by ANOTHER returning member's house today (Sister Jones) and she wasn't home so we started writing a note and just as we were finishing writing she pulled up! We got to share a message with her and her husband who hadn't talked to us a lot before sat in this time! He didn't talk a lot, but he was there and we have faith that the Spirit was able to speak to him, even if just a little bit.

SUNDAY: I turned 20! And a lot of the members of our ward found out thanks to Facebook! One of our ward missionaries brought pink strawberry cupcakes to Sunday School and gave me a singing card and our ward mission leader's family had us over for a dinner of tacos and strawberry ice cream complete with yellow balloons and a birthday gift bag of snacks :) Farmington 2nd ward took good care of me today! A highlight of the day was that the speakers at church spoke on charity, or the pure love of Christ, which is my favorite topic ever. They all had really sweet and tender stories that just touched my heart. I was thinking about Christ's commandment to love one another AS He has loved us. Obviously we won't be able to love everyone exactly like He does; we're imperfect and therefore incapable of the huge magnitude of the perfect love He has towards EVERYONE. But we can love as He loves. Think of how you would characterize His love: unconditional, selfless, patient, nonjudgemental, etc. Our love towards our brothers and sisters won't be perfect, but we can work on developing our own love to possess the same attributes as Christ's does, just on a smaller scale. Our love can be unconditional, selfless, patient, and nonjudgemental. That is how we love as He loves. That's how we exhibit the pure love of Christ.

I hope you all had a wonderful week. Thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes! I love you!!

From Farmington with love,
Sister Bohman

Favorite quote of the week: "No matter how nice of a mirror you hold, you cannot reflect Christ's love unless you stand in His light yourself."
